For more than 60 years, the U.S. Small Business Administration has celebrated National Small Business Week, which acknowledges the critical contributions of America’s entrepreneurs and small business owners. This year, National Small Business Week takes place April 28 - May 4, 2024, and is when the Shawnee Chamber of Commerce officially recognizes their hard work, ingenuity, and dedication, including their contributions to the economy. We are asking our community to join us in this celebration by observing a different theme each day. Please use the hashtag #MyShawneeKS to help us see the fun you are having.
Start Small Business Week off by getting out and having an adventure. Shawnee offers many great places to explore and discover. Fun for the whole family can be found at many of our members. Watching a movie at B&B or get some energy out at SuperKidz Club. You can find these and more great activities in our member directory.
You can support your favorite small business without even spending a penny. Social media is the lifeblood of any business trying to get noticed, and using yours to promote them is a huge help. Using the "@" symbol in your post you can tag a Shawnee small business. Just type @ and then the business name. For example, if you wanted to tag the chamber you would begin typing "@shawneechamber". This will pull up options for you to choose from. The you can tell people why you love that Shawnee business.
A day that we can all get excited about, Takeout Tuesday. This is the delicious opportunity you can celebrate any day. We are lucky to have some of the greatest restaurants in the metro right in our backyard. From grabbing Dunkin on the way to work to the high-end dining experience of Wandering Vine, Shawnee has it all. And don't forget one of our wonderful breweries and cocktail bars. Whether you are grabbing lunch or feeding the family, pay a visit to one of these great places to eat and drink.
We all know that choosing Shawnee to live and work is a no-brainer, but it takes courage to start a business even in a great city. Take a moment to see all of the great new businesses that have come into our community to make it better. Choose one and stop by to welcome them. See what they have to offer and support them. Let them know that we are happy they chose Shawnee.
Owning a business is not easy, but we have many wonderful proprietors that not only successfully run their business, but also invest in our community. This can be a daunting task, especially for small businesses. The chamber is supported by all of its members, but a few have gone above and beyond. When you are thanking our businesses, don't forget to include our Investor Guild.
Shawnee is a beautiful city, and there are many great places to photograph. Like we did on Monday, we want to use our social media for good. Help small businesses by taking a friend to one of our unique establishments and snapping a selfie of you two. Get creative and show us the fun you and your friend are having.
You have made it through small business week, and now it is time to do something for yourself. Maybe you need a personal trainer to get you up and moving, or a new haircut from one of our talented stylists. Take this Saturday to look after you, and visit one of our personal services businesses.
