The Shawnee Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce the Heart of the Community Award and is now accepting nominations! If you know of a person, group, project, or place that has made a positive impact in Shawnee in 2024, we encourage you to submit your nomination by December 9th.

Formerly known as the Citizen of the Year Award, this revamped honor celebrates not just individuals, but also the collective efforts of groups, organizations, and initiatives that work tirelessly to create a more connected and compassionate Shawnee. It’s about recognizing those who bring us together—through innovative projects, collaborative efforts, or initiatives that make Shawnee a better place to live, work, and grow.

The Heart of the Community Award honors teamwork, dedication, and the power of many hands working for the greater good. Whether it's a neighborhood project, an organization supporting local families, or a place that fosters a sense of belonging, we want to highlight the often-overlooked efforts that are the true heartbeat of our city.

This evolution from the Citizen of the Year reflects our belief that it takes more than one to create a community of heart. If you know of a deserving person, group, project, or place that has positively influenced Shawnee in the past year we encourage you to submit your nomination to the Shawnee Chamber of Commerce by December 5th.

Eligibility

Eligible candidates must live or work in Shawnee and have made a positive impact on the community or the people living and working in the community.  The Eligibility period is focused on 2024 but projects or initiatives that have spanned several years will also be considered.
