The Shawnee Chamber of Commerce Foundation has awarded its annual $1,500 Betty Charlton Scholarships for 2021.
This year’s recipients include Annika Pinter, Maranatha Christian Academy; Kyle Smith, DeSoto High School; Katherine Weigel, Mill Valley High School.
The scholarship was established in memory of Betty Charlton, a long-time Shawnee Chamber of Commerce employee, to provide education assistance to outstanding, area high-school seniors. The scholarship selection committee focused on community involvement and leadership skills to select the winner. Burke and Blubaugh met or exceeded all the criteria for this scholarship with their outstanding extracurricular, academic achievement, and community activities.
Pinter will attend Oklahoma Baptist University and plans to study Biochemistry. Smith will attend The University of Kansas and plans to study Biochemistry. Weigel will attend Kansas State University and study Architectural Engineering.
The Betty Charlton Scholarship fund continues to support future community leadership. Scholarships totaling $50,000 have been awarded to area high school seniors during the last 24 years.
Congrats to these recipients and we look forward to seeing all of the great things you do in your career!
